Adam’s September Fine Wine & Spirits sale brings together 343 lots spanning more than a century of wine and spirits, from First Growth Bordeaux and the great domaines of Burgundy to rare Scotch, Japanese whisky and historic Cognac.
At the heart of the sale are several notable private collections, each assembled with a distinct focus. Bordeaux collectors will find exceptional depth in the great 2009 and 2010 vintages, while Burgundy is led by Rousseau, Roumier, Mugnier, Fourrier and Duroché. The sale concludes with a remarkable selection of rare whisky, headed by a 50 Year Old Bowmore distilled in 1969.
Bordeaux: The Great 2009 & 2010 Vintages
A substantial collection purchased en primeur and stored in bond under temperature-controlled conditions forms one of the centrepieces of the sale.
At its head are full original cases of Château Mouton Rothschild 2009 and 2010, estimated at €5,000–7,000 each, together with an impressive run of Château Lynch-Bages across both vintages.
Further highlights include Léoville Barton, Branaire-Ducru, Clerc Milon, d’Armailhac, Canon-la-Gaffelière and Le Petit Mouton.
A complete original case from one of the defining Bordeaux vintages of the century, purchased en primeur and held in bond until removal for sale.
Burgundy from an Exceptional Private Cellar
Fine Burgundy is one of the strongest sections of the September sale.
A significant group comes from a large purpose-built private cellar maintained with professional temperature and humidity control, bringing together some of the most sought-after names of the Côte de Nuits.
Armand Rousseau, Georges Roumier, J.-F. Mugnier, Fourrier, Duroché, Dugat-Py and Pierre Damoy all feature, alongside white Burgundy from Roulot, Leflaive and Pierre-Yves Colin-Morey.
The same cellar also offers Krug 1996, Dom Pérignon 1996 and Giacomo Conterno Barolo Riserva Monfortino 2005.
A Collector’s Cellar: Bordeaux, Burgundy & Rhône
A further extensive private collection ranges across the great wine regions of France, with many wines purchased en primeur and carefully cellared over a number of years.
Highlights include a full case of Château Haut-Brion 2012 (€2,800–3,400), François Lamarche La Grande Rue Grand Cru 2017 (€800–1,200), Jean-Louis Chave Hermitage 2017 (€1,000–1,400) and a full case of Corton-Charlemagne 2017 from Louis Latour (€1,200–1,800)
Exceptional Bordeaux
Beyond the principal collections, a number of important Bordeaux bottles and cases stand out throughout the sale.
A professionally stored full case of Château Margaux 2010 carries an estimate of €5,000–7,000, while Château Angélus 1995, offered in its original wooden case from an extensive private cellar, is estimated at €2,600–3,200.
The sale opens with Pétrus 2002, from the private collection of a longstanding figure in the Irish wine trade.
Rare Whisky
The final section of the sale moves from the great vineyards of Europe to an exceptional selection of mature and collectible whisk(e)y from Scotland, Ireland and Japan.
At its head is a remarkable Bowmore distilled in 1969 and matured for half a century.
Distilled in 1969 and bottled after fifty years of maturation, just 339 bottles were released. The bottle is presented in its sculptural wooden case designed by John Galvin.
An exceptional Irish whiskey rarity, distilled in 1969 and aged for thirty years. The extraordinarily early Bottle No. 04 adds considerably to its appeal.
Further highlights include a 1967 Macallan 18 Year Old, Talisker 1978 41 Year Old and two bottlings from Karuizawa’s celebrated 36 Views of Mount Fuji series.

2024 is a year in which Adam’s wants to recognise the key role buying antique furniture and furnishings at auction contributes greatly to the sustainable initiative. In 2019 the Environmental Protection Agency reported stark figures that each year in Ireland 1.2 million reusable bulky items, primarily furniture goes into landfill. Similar to the problem of ‘fast fashion’, the constant production and consumption of new items is leading to rapidly growing waste problem. We want to acknowledge those who are already buying second hand or antique furniture at auction and to encourage new buyers by highlighting the benefits of acquiring affordable, well-made quality items that are built to last.
